Building on success for our whole region

-

region’s youngest councillor James O’Shea is seeking re-election on March 28 with a key approach in both the city and regional communities.

“I’ve been very proud to represent our region for the last four years and I want to see our region take the next step,” James says.

“In the city of Toowoomba, I want to fight for the revitalisation of the CBD with a focus on increasing inner city living and delivering a long-term sustainable parking strategy.

“We need to give people the opportunity to work, live, learn and play in our CBD.”

Another focal point of James’ campaign will be around youth.

“There is a great need to engage our youth; in the next council term we will see the first cohort of adults who have lived all or a majority of their life in an amalgamated Council,” James says.

“I was a part of the Youth Advisory committee in the previous term which released the first TRC Youth strategy.

“It’s all about empowering our youth and helping co-ordinate opportunities for them to engage and interact with Council and the broader community.

“Investing resources and time in our youth today will pay future dividends for our entire region.”

James is also advocating for a greater focus on investment and engagement with the regional towns of the region.

“Never before has there been a greater need for sustainability in our regional towns,” he says.

“I believe we can budget additional dedicated funding for the smaller communities.

“I’d love to see the introduction of regional community advisory committees made up of community leaders from all sectors.

“I think we can increase our engagement in our regional towns by rotating council meetings around the region.

“We have a region that is the envy of many, let’s keep it that way.”
