Vonhoff: this is personal

-

CANDIDATE Rebecca Vonhoff says her professional experience as well as global and local perspective will be a valuable contribution to Council.

“Our family farm near Crows Nest has been in our family for four generations, my children are the fifth generation.

“To me, this is personal. “We need competent councillors who work hard.

“I want us to think longterm because nothing great can be achieved if we only think two, three years from now.”

She has prioritised water security, vegetation management, long-term planning and promoting visits between children and the elderly in aged-care.

“They’re areas of need and they fall squarely within the remit of local government or in the case of aged-care visits, can be organised by our community and promoted,” she said.

Dr Vonhoff works with Russell Mineral Equipment and sits on several boards and committees across the Toowoomba Region, including St Bart’s Anglican Church Parish Council and Clifton Community Health Services.

The former international journalist has previously edited Canada’s national newspaper, reported for The Australian and The Courier Mail, been deputy editor of The Chronicle and lectured in history at the University of Queensland where she obtained her PhD.

She is a mother to three children, something she says makes her deeply invested in the Darling Downs.

Her name appears last on the ballot, where she is easy to find.
