Taking experience, passion and knowlege to the next level

-

AFTER 15 years of running her own business and helping people find work, and 12 years on the board of the Toowoomba Chamber of Commerce, Joy Mingay says it’s time to take her knowledge, experience and passion for the region to the next level.

“As a councillor, I will be in a better position to help create opportunity, resolve issues and support all of our communities, to build more strength and resilience,” Joy says.

“Small business is the backbone of the Toowoomba Region, representing 97 per cent of business, providing services and employing over 50% of the workforce,” she says.

“I want to see ‘road maps’ for business, not ‘road blocks’; an ombudsman-style officer in council to help business navigate the rules and regulations – and ensure less red tape.

“Small business needs support and leadership from council on issues including planning and growth, with a strong focus on local procurement, including the supply of professional services.”

Over the past few months, Joy has travelled throughout the region on ‘listening tours’ to hear first-hand what issues are concerning residents.

“I’ve spent time in every corner of the region and the same issues keep coming up – better representation through a ward/division system, as our regions have been vastly overlooked and this must change.

“We need jobs for our young people, better roads in the regions and to take better care of the environment.”

Joy has lived in Toowoomba for 30 years, raised a family, built a business and volunteered extensively throughout the community.
