LAWN BOWLS: Bushrangers have officially wrapped up their inaugural Premier League Queensland season by honouring their top performers.

After gaining selection in the competition, the North Toowoomba club set out to secure their 2021 position and club chairman Rod Banks was impressed with their performance.

“While we didn’t finish the season like we wanted, the players stood tall in a very tough competition,” he said.

“Our goal was to compete at the Premier League level and secure a place for 2021. We did that and couldn’t be happier.”

Banks praised the selection panel of Jason Grundon, Gavin Bradford and Josh Steffens for a job well done.

“An initial squad of 42 was selected and just about every player got to experience Premier League play,” he said.

“That experience alone will only make us stronger for next year.”

The A-grade Bushranger sides also stood up to the test and were in contention much of the series.

Len Rasmussen and his team were exceptional, finishing in second place overall in team performances from the 48 teams who contested the series. The team also defeated the top three teams in the competition along the way and finished the season with five straight victories.

The Bushrangers wrapped up their season with a Bushies Celebration Night – celebrating with sponsors, volunteers, officials and players.

Robert Hammond was named the Bushrangers Player of the Year PLQ and his team of Hayden Vogler, Jim Williams and Josh Steffens were recognised for their efforts.

Len Rasmussen took out the Bushrangers A-grade Player of the Year and his team of John Steerl, Shane Krause and Tony Spanjol also received recognition.

The PLQ Encouragement Award went to Randall Taylor while Letitia Weir won the Agrade Encouragement Award.

The Club Person of the Year went to Peter Rookas.

The Bushrangers PLQ committee will meet in the next week to evaluate season 2020 and start planning for next year.
