This COVID-19 is starting to really mess with my head

GEE, GOING TO THE PUB THESE DAYS IS LIKE TAKING OUT A BANK LOAN AND I’M NOT TALKING ABOUT THE PRICE OF LIQUOR.

THIS COVID-inspired isolating and social distancing crap is starting to mess with my mind.

Being on leave with nowhere to go, I was at home on Tuesday and going stir crazy so I decided to take in a 20minute walk downtown and check out a recently renovated pub.

Appropriately covered in winter jacket, I waddled downtown only to arrive across the road from the pub to find I didn’t have my wallet.

What else to do but walk all the way back home and get the wallet, right?

I got home but after searching everywhere I couldn’t find it.

It was only then I realised the wallet had been in my shirt pocket the whole time but with a heavy jacket over the top I’d missed it.

What to do? Stay home or walk downtown again.

I took another 20-minute stroll to the recently renovated pub which, I discovered on my arrival, is only open from Wednesday to Friday and so was in darkness.

So, I retired to another pub for dinner.

Gee, going to the pub these days is like taking out a bank loan and I’m not talking about the price of liquor.

You have to sign in, provide home address and phone number in case there happens to be a virus trail left at the pub.

Then you have to be seated before you get served and, due to some computer hackers infiltrating the brewery supply order line, the pub only had XXXX Gold on tap if one wanted a draught beer – and this one wanted a draught beer.

However, the bar staff were pleasant and it was just good to be back inside a local pub with local people.

But the setbacks due to this virus are not about to stop there.

A group of us months ago, well before COVID-19 invaded our lives, booked a flight to Townsville to take in what was then to be the Cowboys v Knights match in the new stadium on Sunday evening.

Of course, like everything else, COVID-19 turned the NRL draw on its head and now a new draw has been set.

Reigning premiers the Roosters will now be taking on the Cowboys in Townsville that weekend, which one would think is an even better deal.

However, we’re booked to fly up on the Friday because, originally, the game was to be on Sunday evening.

With the revamp of the draw, the Cowboys v Roosters game will be the Thursday night game that weekend.

In other words, we’re flying up to Townsville to watch an NRL game that would have been played the night before.

I’m starting to think it’s a conspiracy.
