$9m for aged care refurb, TSBE study
NEARLY $9 million in Federal Government funding has been awarded to two Toowoomba organisations.
Federal Member for Groom Dr John McVeigh said the money for the communitybased projects, which came from round four of the Federal Government’s Building Better Regions Fund, was a positive investment in the region’s future and would drive economic growth and local jobs at a time we need them most.
Blue Care Toowoomba Aged Care Facility got $8.9 million under the funding round, while Toowoomba and Surat Basin Enterprise received $20,000.
“This is a fantastic outcome for our region,” Dr McVeigh said.
The funding for Blue Care will go towards a refurbishment of the facility, while TSBE’s funding will allow it to undertake research to identify the challenges and opportunities facing the healthcare sector in the Darling Downs region.
“In my role as a Darling Downs MP, I am passionate about the importance of aged care for local families and the significance of the healthcare sector in our economy,” Dr McVeigh said.
“Whether it’s in Pittsworth, Highfields, Oakey or Toowoomba we have achieved a lot but there so much more to do.
“I congratulate Cathy Thomas, group executive of Blue Care and her team and look forward to the development and progress of the Blue Care Toowoomba Refurbishment and Upgrade Project.
“I also look forward to working with Jaden Frame and the team at TSBE on their ongoing support for the healthcare industry across the Downs.
“Communities in Groom are continuing to show amazing spirit and strength as they support each other through drought, COVID-19 and other challenges and I am glad to see this latest round of BBRF will provide much-needed support at such a crucial time.”
