No EKKA but country still heads to the Big Smoke

- PETER HARDWICK peter.hardwick@thechronicle.com.au

COVID-19 might have shut down the EKKA this year but that didn’t stop the country heading to Brisbane this week.

Due to Toowoomba not having a courtroom large enough to accommodate a hearing involving nine accused, each with a barrister and solicitor, the hearing was moved to a Brisbane court.

However, because the incident concerned happened in Toowoomba, the vast majority of those concerned are from the Garden City and all headed down the Range for a few days in Brisbane for the hearing including the Toowoomba-based magistrate and her clerk.

The Chronicle journo had fun explaining who was who in the Brisbane court to the Brisbane-based media.

We are family

AS WOULD be expected COVID-19 restrictions were still taken seriously in the aforementioned Brisbane Magistrates Court.

Security officer was at pains to move people about in the public gallery so they were in keeping with COVID-19 guidelines.

She explained that family members were entitled to sit together and that “The media representatives can sit together as well. After all, they’re like family, they’re always together talking in the courtroom or outside.”

Lass is cockahoop

LASS in Toowoomba spotted a cockroach in her kitchen on Monday and extinguished the critter’s life with bug spray.

However, while she has no aversion to killing the bug, she doesn’t like to touch them and, with her partner away with work all week, the deceased cocky lay on the kitchen floor for the duration.

“So when he gets home tonight (Friday) he’ll be greeted with the week old dead cockroach, that I’ve kindly named Debbie, on the floor,” she told Whispers.

“With the rest of the house clean, I don’t see why he should complain.”
