Soxagon set to bounce back

RACING: Mark Currie believes Soxagon is primed to bounce back with a vengeance at Doomben today.

The four-year-old has built an imposing record throughout his short career, with five wins and six minor placings from 15 starts.

That record extends to today’s venue, where he is yet to miss a placing from four attempts.

Despite his consistency, which has seen him claim two wins, Currie believes he can lift another gear in the Class 6 Plate (1350m) after being narrowly downed at Eagle Farm on June 6.

“I was a bit disappointed the other day,” Currie said.

“There was no pace on, and the other horse was able to run him down. I thought he had it easy enough in front to win.

“He has done everything right since then and is in good order.

“We expect to get a bit of cover. He drops back 50m and gets everything to suit. There’s no excuses for him.

“He gets Brad (Stewart) on as well, and he’s been riding in super form.”

Mishani Secret will also fly the flag for the Currie camp in the QTIS Three-Years-Old Plate (2030m).

The filly got back to a clear last in the Group 3 Rough Habit Plate three weeks ago, and Currie said he expected her to sit much closer in the run today.

“I’m very happy with her going into today,” he said.

“She’s had three weeks between runs and will be on fresh legs. I expect a very good showing.

“The drop in distance won’t worry her. I expect her to go forward and sit in the first four.

“She likes to keep moving forward, she’s not a sit and sprint horse. She was too far back last time.”

Miss Silky will also line up in the event for Tony and Maddysen Sears.

The father-daughter will saddle up Dark Son (QTIS
