Apartments proposal scaled back

- MATTHEW NEWTON

A REVIEW of construction costs has led to a redesign of a multimillion-dollar proposal for eight luxury apartments on Tourist Rd in East Toowoomba.

Town planners Precinct Urban Planning this week submitted plans to Toowoomba Regional Council for a development approval for eight luxury apartments at 32 Tourist Rd.

The DA follows a similar approval issued for the site by the council in March this year.

The new DA is seeking to reduce the scale of the apartments from four storeys to three storeys, with an undercroft carpark and two residential levels, while maintaining an eight-unit development.

Rissco Pty Ltd is the proponent.

“The reduction in scale proposed by this application arose following a review of construction costs for the four storeys building approved,” the documents said.

The changes between the development approval and the new development application include the reduction in building height through the removal of the original penthouse level, and a reduction in the number of basement carparks from 29 to 22.

The ground level will now include a smaller area for communal facilities along with four three bedroom apartments, and the second level includes four three bedroom apartments, with the penthouse apartment at the southern end of the building.

ROADSIDE BURNS

TOOWOOMBA Regional Council will be conducting cool, controlled roadside burns on several roads in the Millmerran district for the control of invasive weeds.

The council will conduct the roadside burns throughout July with the assistance of both Queensland Fire and Emergency Services, and Queensland Rural Fires Service.

Adjoining landholders will be notified of the proposed burns that will take place between July 14 and August 14 2020 (weather permitting). For more information, phone 131 872.
