Cold, dry change on way

-

IT WAS a rainy weekend for many in Toowoomba and surrounds, but it will clear to cool, crisp mornings starting from today.

Bureau of Meteorology forecaster Kimba Wong said the showers were predicted to shift before dawn.

“(Today) we have the system moving off the southeast coast,” Ms Wong said.

“Then we will have a cool, dry air mass move in.

“There is the potential for isolated showers in the morning (tomorrow) but this afternoon should be fine weather in Toowoomba.”

She said the new weather pattern would bring “widespread frost”.

“It’s unlikely we will see snow, but you can’t completely rule it out,” she said.

“It’s cold enough and there is a 20 per cent chance of rain – there could be some light snow flurries in the higher terrains, such as in Girraween.”

She said the sunny, cool conditions would continue for most of the week.

Residents across the region enjoyed the weekend showers, with some areas recording more than 20mm of rain on Saturday night.

Ms Wong said the region had “reasonable” rainfall totals over 24 hours to 9am yesterday morning, with some towns scoring more than others.

“The highest rainfall in the region (Saturday night) was a town near Taroom, which received 47mm of rain,” she said.

“Gambubal Rd, near Warwick, received 23mm, St Ruth, near Dalby, got 20mm and Miles, 18mm.

“It was a little less in Toowoomba, where we recorded 9mm at the airport (Saturday night), and Oakey received 3.6mm.”

Stanthorpe had 4mm and Gatton remained dry.
