Wild winter weather hits city

TOOWOOMBA was hit with icy cold temperatur­es and strong winds yesterday, with the apparent temperatur­e feeling as low as -2.3 degrees.

The Garden City reached a top of just 11 degrees yesterday, and Bureau of Meteorolog­y forecaster Rosa Hoff said the cold weather was set to continue. “These cold nights are going to stick around, day time temperatur­es should be repaired a bit sooner because we’ll have a bit of sun during the day,” Ms Hoff said.

THE mercury dropped to 2.9 degrees in Toowoomba yesterday with the apparent temperatur­e sitting at -2.3 at 5am.

The cold was being felt right across the Darling Downs with the wind chill factor making it feel even colder.

Oakey recorded a temperatur­e of 0.7 degrees overnight with an apparent temperatur­e of -3.5 at 5am, Dalby recorded 2.1 with an apparent temperatur­e of -2, Stanthorpe recorded 3.7 with an apparent temperatur­e of -1, and Warwick recorded 5.1 with an apparent temperatur­e of 1.8 at 5am.

Bureau of Meteorolog­y forecaster Rosa Hoff said the cold temperatur­es were set to continue throughout the week.

“These cold nights are going to stick around, day time temperatur­es should be repaired a bit sooner because we’ll have a bit of sun during the day,” Ms Hoff said.

“There’s quite a bit of southerly air being pushed into Queensland thanks to a low pressure system in the

Tasman Sea off the coast of NSW.” Toowoomba’s maximum temperatur­e reached just 11 degrees yesterday, with strong winds blowing through the city up to 45km/ h.

“The morning will be the windiest part of the day for today,” Ms Hoff said.

“West to southweste­rly winds reaching 40km/h.”
