New principal for St Mary’s
ONE of Toowoomba’s top private schools has revealed just who will be their new principal from 2021.
In a letter to St Mary’s College parents, Diocese of Toowoomba Catholic Schools executive director Dr Patrick Coughlan said Ignatius Park College (Townsville) deputy principal Brendan Stewart would take over the role.
Current principal Michael Newman announced earlier this year he would be leaving the school at the end of this year.

ONE of Toowoomba’s top private boy schools has revealed just who will be their new principal from 2021.
In a letter to St Mary’s College parents, Diocese of Toowoomba Catholic Schools executive director Dr Patrick Coughlan said Ignatius Park College (Townsville) deputy principal Brendan Stewart would take over the role.
“Brendan brings a strong and compelling vision for the future of the college and the energy and drive to continue to outstanding work of (outgoing principal) Michael Newman, the college leadership team and staff,” Dr Coughlan wrote.
“His expertise and experience mean he is well positioned to lead the college to the next level of outstanding academic achievement, pastoral care and community outreach.
“We are very fortunate to have Brendan joining the Toowoomba Catholic Schools system.”
Dr Coughlan said Mr Stewart was married and was highly regarded in his current parish community.
“He is looking forward to making the move to a more temperate climate and has a strong affinity for living in regional cities,” he said.
“Brendan started his working life as an accountant with KPMG, before making the move to education in 1993
He is a music enthusiast and his teaching specialities include economics and religious education.”
Current principal Michael Newman announced earlier this year he would be leaving the school at the end of this year to take up the headmaster position at the prestigious Marist College Ashgrove in Brisbane.
Mr Newman said he loved his 10-year tenure at St Mary’s.
