IT’S been a long time coming, but community team sport made a glorious return to Toowoomba at the weekend.

Clyde Park saw the return of hockey and the Toowoomba Football League made a comeback after being on hiatus since March and Aussie rules started its season on the Downs.

The Chronicle looks at our top five that excelled at the weekend.

SAVANNAH TRAPP

Past High shot out of the blocks in their first COVID Cup game against Red Lion, and there was nobody hotter than Savannah Trapp.

The striker was in blistering form first-up, knocking in six goals in an outing to remember.

Trapp, who has been a regular in representative teams, is just 16-years-old.

GABE ROBBIE

Talk about a club debut to remember.

The former Sydneysider booted home nine goals in his first game as a Bomber, leading the side to a 72-point win.

JOSH McPAUL

The Newtown forward was in the thick of things against Rangeville, piling on a hattrick.

It was his final goal that proved the difference, with a late matchwinner to secure his side a 3-2 win.

TY WHEELER

The Toowoomba apprentice had his second race-meeting at the weekend at Esk.

He booted home a treble from his four rides, continuing a golden run to start his riding career.

He’ll now have his first ride at Dalby on Thursday.

BRIANNA POGANY

South Burnett will fancy their chances as long as Brianna Pogany keeps firing.

She had a six-goal haul on the weekend at home against Goondiwindi, finding form ahead of a huge clash with Toowoomba this weekend.
