Our region home to country’s best steak

-

A TOOWOOMBA region producer has raised the steaks once again, taking home the title of Australia’s best beef cut.

It’s the fourth year in a year Stockyard’s wagyu Kiwami has taken out the title of top steak at the Royal Queensland Food and Wine Show’s branded beef and lamb competition awards.

The Jondaryran producer took home the gong at the Brisbane Showgrounds on Tuesday.

Chief judge Elaine Millar said the steak deserved its grand champion title.

“Kiwami once again showcased its extraordinary credentials – long-lasting wellretained juiciness, a luxurious molten texture on the palate, and visually it was outstanding,” she said.

The wagyu, which has a 9+ marbling score, beat 24 other entries to be named Australia’s best, with the judges also impressed by the overall quality of beef entered in the competition.

“The scores were high and very close, many with less than one-point difference, therefore proving that grain, grass and wagyu entries are all worthy of the highest accolades,” Ms Millar said.

“For a country that produces some of the finest beef in the world, we have unearthed the best of the best which continues to position Australia as leader in the international beef market.”

Family-owned Woodward Foods Australia claimed the title of Australia’s best lamb for the second year in a row, this time with its Australian Lamb product produced at Swan Hill in Victoria.

RQFWS award-winning beef and lamb will be served from August 7-16 at a pop-up store in King Street at the Brisbane Showgrounds, as part of Ekka 2020 Online.
