THE Toowoomba Regional Council will run a guaranteed parking program in the CBD itself, after finding no suitable tenders for the project.

The councillors on Tuesday ratified a confidential decision last week to authorise a longterm parking plan for the top deck of the Toowoomba Bus

Station car park on Neil St.

It came directly after the council voted to not grant the tender to any of the applicants that put forward a bid.

The project is expected to cost the council $60,000 to install card readers, signage, cameras, lighting upgrades and other equipment, which will be drawn from the City Centre Car Parking Strategy Implementation.

Under the new fees and charges scheme endorsed as part of the project, a quarterly spot on the top deck will cost $678.25, while an annual spot will cost $1,716.

110 spots are available on the top level, with the scheme to be in place by the end of the year.

“The annual operational costs of managing authorised long-term parking on the top deck

of the Toowoomba bus station car park be provided for at Budget Review One,” the resolution said.

“Promotion of authorised long-term parking on the top deck of the Toowoomba bus station car park be undertaken with an anticipated start date of November 1.

“Councillors will be provided with a periodic update on the take-up of this authorised long-term parking.”

Guaranteed parking has been on the agenda for months.
