CAKES are an essential part of any celebration and Toowoomba residents are fortunate enough to have many incredible cake designers at their disposal.

Neva May Cakes is owned by Vicky Neal, who uses her skills learnt from her nana as well as her chef’s apprenticeship to create some of the most artistic cakes in the region.

Neva May Cakes specialises in fondant decorated cakes but also creates cupcakes and personalised cookies.

Cake making isn’t the only thing Ms Neal does, she is a dental assistant, personal trainer and boxing instructor at a number of gyms across town.

Despite her busy schedule she said hours were poured into every one of her designs.

“I learned to bake from a young age, mostly from my nana, more knowledge was gained throughout my apprenticeship as a chef, and of course a lot of trial and error after that,” she said.

“I learned to decorate cakes with fondant from books to start with, and then I enrolled in many classes with Mary Reid from Merivale Cakes in Highfields.

“Mary became my mentor for many years, taking me under her wing and introducing me to a world of interstate and international classes and designers.”

Ms Neal said she took pride in every design she sent out.

“It’s always rewarding to see my clients reactions when they see their cake,” she said.

“Another great thing is seeing my couples walk into my cake studio when they come along for cake tasting. I’m not sure what they ever expect, but they always seem to mind blown when they walk into my room and see my cakes on display.”

Ms Neal offers complimentary cake tasting to all couples getting married.
