POLICE have confirmed they have “no concerns” over the actions of the security worker who returned to Toowoomba from Afghanistan.

State Disaster Coordinator Steve Gollschewski confirmed on Wednesday they had verified all documents used by the man in his application for an exemption from hotel quarantine.

“We’ve verified the bona fides of what has been presented by this person and what they’ve said,” Mr Gollschewski said.

“We have no concerns about that person at all.”

The documents the man used to get into Queensland were provided to police yesterday for investigation.

“(I was) fairly comfortable the information was accurate, that there wasn’t any fraudulent behaviour here,” Chief Health Officer Jeannette Young said.

“The individual wore a mask, he did everything correctly.”

“It was referred to police to double check the information was accurate, as I’m not an expert in determining fraud.”

The man, in his 20s, returned to Australia from Kabul, Afghanistan this week, flying from Sydney to the Sunshine Coast on a Jetstar flight, before his wife drove him home to Toowoomba, where he tested positive to COVID-19.

Dr Young said the man did go into hotel quarantine on arrival in Australia in Sydney, but contacted health authorities to ask to quarantine at home.

“So New South Wales Health approached Queensland and we said yes it did meet that exemption, so yes we should allow that person in,” she said.

“We did receive a letter from DFAT and a letter from the gentleman himself. He had a diplomatic passport and we’re fairly comfortable the information was accurate.”
