Intersection’s $2.8m fix

-

FUNDING has been announced to fix a dangerous intersection of the Warrego Highway and Brimblecombe Rd at Oakey.

The State and Federal Governments have joined forces to fix the issue.

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Infrastructure, Transport and Regional Development

Michael McCormack said the Federal Government had listened to the community and would be investing up to $2.2 million on the $2.8 million project to upgrade the local black spot.

“The Federal Member for Groom John McVeigh has advocated tirelessly for this upgrade and thanks to his work, we are confirming federal funding to deliver these improvements as soon as possible,” Mr McCormack said.

Queensland Transport and Main Roads Minister Mark Bailey said the intersection had seen a number of crashes over recent years, including two tragic fatalities.

“Confirming funding for this upgrade will allow construction to get under way from next year, once detailed design and other important preparatory works are complete,” Mr Bailey said.

Dr McVeigh welcomed the announcement, saying the upgrades would address longstanding safety issues at the intersection.

“Works will include a dedicated right-turn lane to separate turning vehicles from fastmoving highway traffic, road widening to increase drivers’ margin of error, improved signage and lighting upgrades,” Dr McVeigh said.

The Queensland Government has committed $600,000 to the project.
