ROUDI’S SALON DREAM

- CASSANDRA GLOVER cassandra.glover@thechronicle.com.au

AFTER moving to Toowoomba from Iraq in 2017, it was Roudi Jindo’s dream to open a hair salon in Australia.

Mr Jindo managed hair salons in Iraq and will run Roudi’s Salon, which opened at the weekend, with his sister Ramzia Jendo.

The Chronicle spoke to Mr Jindo through his friend and translator Rojin Rash.

“He was a hairdresser before in Iraq. It was already his career, but it was his dream to open his own salon in Australia,” Ms Rash said.

“He worked very hard and he struggled with language.

“He tried to go to TAFE to get a certificate to run his own business, but he wasn’t accepted in the beginning because of his English, it wasn’t good enough to get through the course.

“Then he improved his language and got the course to achieve his dream, a Certificate III in hairdressing.”

Once Mr Jindo had his certificate, the Iraqi community in Toowoomba encouraged him to open his own salon.

Ms Rash said there were more than 1000 families from their community living in Toowoomba.

“They encouraged (Mr Jindo) to have his own salon so they can come to him,” Ms Rash said.

“They feel easier, and it’s more comfortable to come to him because of the language barrier.

“It’s easier for them to explain what they like, what their cut would be, what the colour will be.”

Mr Jindo said he was happy to finally have his salon open.

“He dreamt to have his own business and salon and it’s a great feeling to achieve it,” Ms Rash said.

Roudi’s Salon is located at unit 9, 382 Ruthven St.
