Grand final rematch a real thriller

LAWN BOWLS: Beaten pennants finalists West Toowoomba took a small step toward extracting revenge on their foes at the weekend.

Wests won all three rinks on their way to a comfortabl­e 73-40 win over South Toowoomba in the replay of last year’s First Division final.

Calum Brownie, Col Hall and Gary Gray all recorded wins, pushing them into the top three skip spots in tier one.

Toowoomba 1 also continued their winning start to the season defeating North Toowoomba 1 58-49 (2-1 rinks).

Jai Singh and Len Rasmussen both chalked up victories with Hayden Vogler claiming one rink back for North Toowoomba.

Drayton produced the upset of the round, beating Pittsworth 66-51 away from home.

Len Bartz and Lester Harvey recorded wins for Drayton and Shane Greentree flew the flag for Pittsworth, winning his rink.

In tier two, Gatton maintained their perfect record, defeating West Toowoomba 3 61-40 on all rinks.

Gary Ruhle defeated Des Gibbs on the last end, while Tommy McGoldrick and Ross Knight had solid wins.

The game of the round was between Toowoomba 2 and South Toowoomba 2.

Toowoomba won all three rinks on their way to a 60-55 victory.

John Oxenham won by three shots, with Lester Eiser and Peter Radcliffe both winning by one shot.

North Toowoomba 2 defeated City 70-65 with Steve Barnes and Michael Cherry’s rinks winning and Graham Healy saluting for City.

Tier two has a lay weekend next weekend while tier one has a double header.
