FOOTBALL: A familiar club is strengthening its position atop the TFL Premier Women’s division ladder.

Willowburn went six points clear of Highfields at the weekend with a 5-2 win over West Wanderers.

Despite going behind early to a Sophie Fuller goal, the Magpies were able to fight back and keep their perfect record intact.

Fuller put her side ahead in the 8th minute before Willowburn drew through a Shandell Robertson goal.

Shannon Tyrrell scored the first of her three goals in the 42nd and Willowburn went into the halftime break 2-1 up.

Fuller dragged her side back in the game after the break, scoring again in the 51st minute but Willowburn ran away with the game late.

A quick fire double (57th and 65th minutes) helped Tyrrell round out her hat-trick and Robertson scored her second goal in the 72nd minute.

Highfields remain in touching distance of the ladder leaders following a 4-0 win over defending premiers Rockville. Locked up

In the Premier Men’s division, nothing separates Willowburn and Gatton at the top of the ladder.

Both teams have identical 5-1-1 (wins, lose, draw) records and the exact same for and against goal differences (18 for, 8 against).

Highfields tested Willowburn’s patience at the weekend with a determined display against the current premiers.

Nathan Skinner’s goal in the 75th minute was all that separated the two sides.

Gatton prevailed 2-1 in a spiteful encounter with USQ.

Four players, two from each side, were shown straight red cards in the game.
