The ascending career of Georgia Voll has taken another boost, with the Toowoomba teenager named in the Brisbane Heat’s 15-woman squad for the upcoming WBBL season.

It continues a whirlwind couple of months for the 17year-old, who earned a Queensland Fire contract alongside fellow Downs player Ellie Johnston.

“It was pretty exciting to get signed,” Voll said.

“It was a couple of months ago that I found out, and I’ve been focusing on training really hard and putting in work (since then) so the results can come later.”

Voll has been named in the squad alongside the likes of Australian representatives Jess Jonassen and Delissa Kimmince, an experience she hasn’t been taking for granted, with question marks still present on the formation of the upcoming seasons.

“It’s a good opportunity to train alongside some of the best players in the world,” she said.

“I’ve been doing a preseason with the Fire girls, and there’s an overlap with the Heat squad.

“It’s good to get around them now and transfer to the Heat later.

“There’s still a lot of unknowns with everything, so we’re trying to put in as much work as we can every day.”

Formerly studying at Fairholme College, Voll has since transferred to Brisbane State High School, where she said the school-cricket balance has

worked in her favour.

“School’s been really good with it all,” she said.

“With training during the day, I get to go there and then go to school.

“I’m really enjoying it, and there’s a good balance there.”

The Women’s Big Bash League games broadcast across the screens of Fox Sports throughout the sixth season of the competition.

Voll said that they hope to build off the momentum of a huge viewing audience across the Women’s T20 World Cup.

“It’s really exciting that the girls games are getting broadcast further over the different channels,” she said.

“The T20 World Cup really lifted the girls game. Everyone was really interested and it made an impact.

“It’s made everyone open their eyes to how good the game is.”

The WBBL season is scheduled to start on October 17, with the Heat hosting Adelaide Strikers at Allen Border Field.
