Neutralise spring

- By CAMILLA MEISE

Dressing for spring can be overwhelming with so many prints, colours and one-off season pieces. If you are anything like me, you are drawn to go for timeless colours, cuts and styles to ensure you can wear the piece in every season and the added bonus is you get to pull it out each year if it is seasonal piece.

Ilove the all-neutral trend of dressing head-to-toe in white, grey, black, ivory, beige, taupe, khaki or brown. These tones are considered balance tones and they set the base to any outfit, but they complement this season perfectly. You can layer any outfit with neutral tones, but you can also layer an outfit with just neutral toned pieces.

You can change up your looks by wearing slightly different hues of neutral tones or same colour for a classy and sophisticated look.

ALL-ONE TONE

If you are wanting to be striking with a sophisticated look, I recommend an all one tone outfit. Do a bold, all white suit combo that screams powerful woman or all ivory toned linen jumpsuit that shows the soft, gentle nature of a beach woman.

ACCESSORIES BOLDLY

If you are wearing a completely neutral toned outfit and want to brighten up your look, I recommend you accessorise your look with a bold yellow, orange or red tone piece, whether that be a handbag, earring, necklace or shoes.

TEXTURE

All-neutral and monochromatic looks can dare to be bold with a different texture. Pick an accent of statement materials like lines, lace, knits, wools, denims or straw and if the material has a bold pattern on it then pair it with a softer fabric like silk, cotton or crepe. If you want to be bolder with this look wear a sheer top and a bright coloured bra or bralette.

OFF-WHITE

White is so popular already but dare to be different put an off-white piece in your closet to finish a look. Playing with some warmer shades can spice up your look without being too striking.

ADD STRUCTURE

I am obsessed with structured outfits lately and with spring coming soon there is no better time to show off your waistline again. Take advantage of crisp, structured pieces that are asymmetrical cuts, pleats, ruffles, belts, knots and statement sleeves that can create the perfect fit for any body shape.

ALL THE TONES

Throw a few different tones of neutral into one outfit; this look will leave you feeling like you can take on the world especially with a bold trench coat. I love to pair my looks with aspects of different beige, brown and white tones to create a well-balanced ensemble.
