Defending champions face must-win clash

-

LAWN BOWLS: Title-holders South Toowoomba cannot afford to lose today.

Up against Drayton, the current DDBA champions need a win or a draw to book their place in the play-offs to defend their tier 1 title.

The champions won’t have it easy though – a win for Drayton at Club Toowoomba will seal the final playoff for them and relegate the champions to also-rans.

The other tier 1 games will also determine how the finals look.

Toowoomba will secure top spot if they can defeat West Toowoomba 1 at Wests.

West Toowoomba 1 welcome back key players that were missing in their loss to North Toowoomba 1 and will be looking to build some momentum into the Division 1 semi-finals.

A loss for Toowoomba 1 to West Toowoomba 1 will give North Toowoomba 1 an opportunity to go top with a victory over bottom-placed West Toowoomba 2.

Pittsworth, who have the bye, will be sweating on the margin of the game between South Toowoomba 1 and Drayton to determine whether they will get a bye into the Division 2 final or have to host West Toowoomba 2 in the semi-final the next weekend.

In tier 2, the battle to fit five in into four to make the Division 3 finals is massive.

Gatton host Toowoomba City with City needing to win with a margin of 15 to jump Gatton.

North Toowoomba 2 travel to South Toowoomba 2, with South Toowoomba 2 needing a win to secure their spot in Division 3.

Toowoomba 2, in fifth, travel to West Toowoomba 3 looking for a good win to sneak their way into Division 3.

The team that misses out on Division 3 will play off against West Toowoomba 3 in the Division 4 final in a fortnight time.

All games start 12.30pm.
