FOOTBALL: Midfielder Jordan Howard has been with the South West Queensland Thunder since day one.

Howard was a SWQ Zone under-12 player and when he moved into the U13 ranks the “zone” became the SWQ Thunder.

“It’s a really big commitment and it’s not always easy,” Howard said.

“Juggling training, games and all the other aspects of your life can be difficult.

“Personally I just try to remind myself about why I am doing this (playing football) as much as possible.

“I love football.

“It’s not a long term thing like other careers, so I try to make the most of it at every opportunity.”

The commitment, dedication and sacrifice do have their benefits though.

The Thunder are currently leading the FQPL and are playing some of the best football in the club’s history.

“It’s a really exciting time to be part of the club,” Howard, 20, said.

“We’re top of the table right now and everyone is doing their best to get the club back into the NPL.

“We have a really good spread of players.

“There’s the imports who we bought into the club this season, the players like myself who have come up through the ranks and we signed a few players from the Toowoomba competition as well.

“The key to our success so far is the fact we all gel so well together.

“Every week you have to

fight for your position in the team and whether you’re one of the boys on the bench or in the starting side, everyone is doing their part to help the team win.”

This Sunday the Thunder travel to Brisbane to play fifth placed Rochedale Rovers.

Unbeaten in their last nine games the equation is simple for the Thunder.

“We just need to keep playing our brand of football,” Howard said.

“If it’s not broken why try to fix it?

“We don’t focus too much on our opposition.

“Right now we’re playing a brand of football that works for us and the results speak for themselves.

“It’s important we stick to what works for us and try to improve our play and lift our game at every chance.”

GAME DAY: SWQ Thunder (men) vs Rochedale Rovers at Underwood Park, 4.15pm. SWQ Thunder vs Moreton Bay at Wolter Park, 5pm. Both matches areon Sunday, September 6.
