IN LIGHT of Australian Organic Awareness Month, a Toowoomba business is shedding light on the true meaning behind being certified organic and what consumers can look out for when grocery shopping.

The Australian Organic Market Report 2019 found 65% of Australian households are now buying some sort of organic product or produce yearly, with 49% saying personal health is the top reason they purchase organic products.

Cleaver’s Organic, of parent company Arcadian Organic and Natural Meat Company marketing director Paul da Silvia said with organic produce trending, it was important that people really understood what they were buying met their expectations for organic products.

He said more and more people were turning to organic produce.

“Organic is for everyone, it’s becoming mainstream now and we see that in demand for our products,” he said.

“People have become particularly interested in where their food comes from.

“If you want a transparent product system and to know exactly what is in the food you’re consuming certified organic is the way to go.”

Cleaver’s Organic main goal is to provide families with delicious, healthy and ethical organic meat products. The brand offers an array of popular meat cuts including mince, steaks, and sausages.

Cleaver’s also produces beef hot dogs and lasagne.

All of which are certified organic, free-range and are guaranteed to be free of preservatives, antibiotics and added hormones.

Mr da Silvia said it was important when buying organic that consumers look out for the Australian Certified Organic BUD Logo.

The BUD Logo is displayed as a stamp of integrity and reassures consumers that all the product ingredients have been certified to the Australian Certified Organic Standard, meeting rigorous certification checks.

“In Australia, if you don’t export your products it is only voluntary to comply with the organic standard and become certified organic.

“It is only mandatory if you export the product.

“That means in Australia, any product can be slapped with a sticker claiming it is organic to make consumers believe they are getting the benefits of genuine organic produce.”
