Thousands to be disconnected

-

THOUSANDS of homes across the region are set to have their landline and internet disconnected as the NBN network replaces existing services.

In Toowoomba, roughly 1000 premises in parts of Clifton, Ballard, Blue Mountain Heights, Highfields, Kingsthorpe, Drayton, Hodgson Vale, Mount Rascal, Preston, Top Camp, Vale View, Westbrook, Hodgson Vale, Glenvale, Newtown and Oakey will have their services disconnected.

In the South Burnett, about 1000 premises in Blackbutt and Nanango will be disconnected, while in the Lockyer Valley around 200 premises in parts of Brightview, Glenore Grove, Lockrose, Plainland, Regency Downs, Hatton Vale, Kensington Grove, Regency Downs, Summerholm, Gatton and Placid Hills will be disconnected.

The disconnections are part of the upgrade of telecommunications infrastructure in towns and suburbs across Queensland, where the NBN network will replace most existing phone and internet services.

A moratorium on managed disconnection activities ran from March 19 – June 30, but will restart from September 11.

Although most existing services will be replaced by the NBN, there are some services that should not be impacted by the switch.

These include those services provided over non-NBN fibre networks, as well as some services in some apartment complexes, and some business and special services.

Homes and businesses in the area are likely to have been able to place an order for services over the NBN network through their phone and internet provider for 18 months.

Head of NBN local Queensland Kylie Lindsay said while many homes and businesses had already swapped to NBN, “this is the final stage of the transition to the NBN network”.

“If you have any special equipment that operates on your current landline, it’s important you talk with your phone and internet provider to get the right support when moving across.

“It’s particularly important for anyone with a medical alarm, auto-dialler or emergency call button to register these devices on NBN’s Medical Alarm Register.”
