Gilbar’s hat trick leads Past High

Past High has claimed a big scalp ahead of the women’s COVID Cup grand final.

Set to face off with Rangeville again in the decider, the Hawks will take a psychologi­cal advantage into the decider after a 3-1 victory at the weekend.

Holly Gilbar struck early in the contest, with a further two strikes in the third quarter completing her hat-trick, with Brooke Thompson getting Rangeville on the board in the final term.

It squares up the ledger at one game a piece throughout the regular season, ahead of the anticipate­d grand final on September 18.

Newtown locked up third spot on the women’s ladder, coming away with a 2-0 defeat of Norths.

Sharni Lee got the Tigers on the board in the eighth minute, before Samantha Richards created a further buffer midway through the second term.

Fresh after solidifyin­g their spot in the men’s COVID Cup grand final, Newtown had a tough evening against a determined Norths side.

Aaron Keneally struck home a goal for Newtown, but from then on it was all Norths, with Zac Gooderham, Jacob Robertson and Kynan Haddock shooting their side to a 3-1 victory.

Newtown now has a bye in the final round prior to their clash with Red Lion in the decider.

Past High was clinical in its outing against Rangeville, piling on the goals in a 7-1 rampage.

Scores were level midway through the second quarter, before a pair of goals to Coen Heslop before the halftime break gave Past High a 3-1 lead.

They went on with it in the second half, with two goals in each remaining quarter securing the big win, with Will Ready finishing the game with a double.
