Lives at risk

-

NEW South Wales people suffering from ill health and living less than 100 kms from Brisbane must take the life-threatening 900-kilometre trip to Sydney for treatment, because “Queensland hospitals are for Queenslanders,” according to Labor premier Palaszczuk.

Consequently, lives are put at risk, including the subsequent death of one unborn twin.

The emotional stress on New South Wales families living near the Queensland border is obvious; they rely on the Queensland Health system, but Premier Palaszczuk knows that they don’t get to vote in Queensland’s elections.

New South Wales people are Australians too; they pay the Medicare Levy and their taxes help pay for Queensland’s hospitals.

Furthermore the incidence of COVID-19 cases in northern NSW is zero.

By contrast Melbourne has the highest incidence of COVID-19 in Australia.

Nevertheless, our Labor Premier allowed not just one or two but dozens of AFL executives and their families to travel from Melbourne to Brisbane.

The 14-day quarantine restriction was waived for them.

She even encouraged them to mingle with other guests; the players interpreted that invitation in their own way, resulting in their reported and predictable misbehaviour. So much for her propaganda about “Queenslanders’ safety”.

The Labor Premier argues that the AFL Grand Final at the Gabba will be good for the struggling Queensland economy but those Grand Final attendees won’t be spending any money here; they’ll have to return home after the game because of her COVID-19 restrictions.

Furthermore, she has refused to reveal the cost to the Queensland taxpayers of hosting the game, including the elaborate hospitality showered onto the AFL executives and all their entourage on September 1 and 2.

These are just a few of Palaszczuk’s many inconsistencies; her only concern is the upcoming election. GLENIS BATTEN, Toowoomba
