BEVERIDGE’S TOP HONOUR

Grade talent leading Valley into DDBBL season

-

With just three sleeps remaining until the start of the Darling Downs Bush Bash League, anticipation levels are starting to peak.

One of those players chomping at the bit to take the field is Zac Beveridge, who will lead the Valley

Raptors into the new season.

“I’m really keen. We’ve got an exciting side with a lot of experience, and we’re looking forward to getting out there,” he said.

“The lead-up has been good. There’s been lots of team meetings with the owners and coaching staff. We’ve had a training run which is good to get under the belt as well.”

After lining up for the Hip Pocket Rockets in the inaugural season, Beveridge takes on a new role as one of the six club captains for 2020.

He said he wants to lead with his actions, in the hopes of taking the Raptors to the finals.

“For me as captain, if I can focus on my own game, being able to do what I can with the role (of captain) will

follow,” he said.

“I learnt a bit as second grade captain in Brisbane, and it’s good to get back into it.

“I’ve always said that ever since the competition started, that being able to gel guys from western and country Queensland with players from Brisbane is great.

“I love the fact that you can learn off everyone. It’s one of my favourite things about the DDBBL.”

After growing up playing his cricket at Toowoomba Grammar and with Western Districts, Beveridge made the move to play grade in Brisbane with Western Suburbs.

Enjoying the challenge of

the Bulls Masters competition, Beveridge said he would love to take his game further if the opportunity arose.

“It’s a little bit different to Toowoomba, but I’m really enjoying it,” he said.

“Hopefully I’ll be down here for a few more years yet.

“I’d love to push for further (honours). Cricket should always come down to your performances, and if I can keep pushing myself, hopefully bigger things will be coming.

“We’ll just have to wait and see.”

An added bonus for Beveridge is the chance to link up with brother Joel, who was also chosen in the squad, continuing a tradition of brothers playing with and against each other in the DDBBL.

“It’s great to have the little big brother as a teammate. We’re really excited to play with each other again” he said.

“Any time there’s a relation it gets more competitive, venturing from the backyard for a few people. The only difference this time is when you’re out, you’re out.”

The DDBBL season starts on Sunday.
