Border closures

-

I AM appalled at the Premier’s lack of compassion and hard heartedness while she “keeps Queensland safe”.

In a week because of the hard border closure a mother has lost her baby, two young girls were unable to cross the border to attend their father’s funeral, as well as the ongoing battle to allow students to go home from Toowoomba boarding schools for the holidays to areas where there is no COVID, 400 or so Victorian AFL families, staff etc fly in for the AFL grand final to be staged in Brisbane in October.

And the week before, Townsville hosted car races and the Jeff Horn fight.

And then the announcement of millions of dollars more to be given for mental health during the pandemic.

What a joke. No wonder depression and anxiety are on the rise.

Most people coped with the earlier permit system and it seemed to work but version two is callous and cruel.

There is no logic or consistency in the decisions being made, and it is causing resentment and feelings of rebellion.

I know how much we as parents with our daughters at Fairholme in the 90s looked forward to having them home for the holidays, and they needed a dose of home at the end of each term.

There were plenty of jobs they could help with on the farm while they were home too.

I guess rural people from northern NSW who travel to Queensland for education, medical care and shopping and have done for years aren’t voting Labor in the upcoming Queensland election. ALISON AMOS, Toowoomba
