Mini urges Aubo to break his Roosters record

- Matt Logue

MITCHELL Aubusson has revealed how Anthony Minichiello has told him to “go out and get” his most capped Sydney Roosters record.

But in true Aubusson fashion, the unassuming utility is just focused on helping the Roosters cement a top three berth with victory over Cronulla on Saturday.

The Tricolours fan favourite will create history against the Sharks at the SCG when he surpasses Minichiello to play the most games for the Roosters with 303 appearances.

The veteran was at his humble best when asked about the milestone on Monday.

Aubusson happily deflected all the praise to his teammates, but he reserved special mention for his former captain and the man he is replacing in the Roosters’ record book in Minichiello.

“Mini told me to go and get the record – that was big from him,” Aubusson said.

“He has been really good with me in the last few weeks talking about my 300th and how proud he was.

“He was my captain here for a long time. There was the 2013 premiership ... he is a great leader of men, and I’m really proud to say that I played underneath him and took a part in his journey.

“I’m also proud that we are still mates today and is texting me to say congratulations.

“I’m going to be really proud and really humbled by the milestone.

“I’m sure I will look back and it’s something that I can tell the kids one day that it was a really special moment.”

Roosters winger Brett Morris believes Aubusson is at the centre of the club’s success.

“He is probably the glue that holds the side together,” Morris said. “If he wasn’t there, you would feel like a part of you was missing.”
