Where to get Shannons Chips in Toowoomba this weekend

SHANNONS Hot Chips has found a new way to stay in business when its main source of income was decimated due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Just like many businesses who rely on local and state events for their business to thrive, Shannons Hot Chips has had a difficult year.

Usually attending upwards of 40 events each year, the last time the Shannons Hot Chips van was able to operate as usual was at the Stanthorpe Apple and Grape Festival in March.

Now owners Pam and Clyde Horrex have come up with another way to supply the public with their famous hot chips.

It is now travelling around the region hosting pop-up events at different locations.

Firstly, the van popped-up at Warwick, then Crows Nest, and now it’s coming to Toowoomba.

The van will be at the Showgrounds from Friday to Sunday from 9.30am, and they’ll be joined by the Showbag Factory and Real Coffee.

Mrs Horrex said she was looking forward to the weekend.

“It’s the first time we have been around Toowoomba for the Carnival of Flowers weekend in many years. We are hoping it’s a good weekend,” she said.

Mrs Horrex said Shannons Chips had been around for 72 years, and in her 31 years operating the van she hadn’t had anything like the COVID-19 pandemic affect her business.

“We’ve had fires and floods, but nothing like this,” she said.

“Show after show has been cancelled, and we were just stunned when this all hit. It was very scary.

“We don’t have any insight into what might happen and we’re not sure how long we’ll do these pop-up events for because it’s very different to working a show.

“But we are grateful to have something to keep us going for now.”
