Holiday reads kids will love

- PATRICK TADROS

Convincing kids to put a book in their hands rather than a game controller can be a struggle during the school holidays. But here’s a swag of cool books to help keep every child engaged – reviewed by kids themselves. So get comfy and read on.

CRACK UP

Le Vay, 12

This is about a boy named Max Crack and his friend, Frankie Doink. These boys love going on quests all the time. These include winning the world record for the most Stalac-pop Boomerangs made and thrown in six hours by under 25 people. They also saw their favourite band, Peck, and they dug up a meteorite. I really enjoyed reading this book because it’s always grabbing your attention. 8/10

MONTY’S

ISLAND: SCARY MARY AND THE STRIPE SPELL

I enjoyed this book. It taught me to never judge a book by its cover. It’s about a group of friends and a pirate coming to steal their island. It also taught a lesson of friendship. Friends aren’t always going to be perfect, but they are always going to be special. My favourite character was Bunchy, because she makes mistakes and learns her lesson. 8/10

TRICKY NICK

By Nicholas J. Johnson Reviewed by Iggy Jenkins, 9

Tricky Nick claims he’s the greatest magician in the world. He meets a man called Mr E, who introduces him to a whole brotherhood of magicians. Nick and his friend Trixie have funny adventures, teaching me real magic tricks along the way (watch out, Mum and Dad). This is a fun read for kids up to the age of 12. 7/10
