BASKETBALL: A QSL finals spot is slowly slipping from the hands of the Mountaineers men after a pair of defeats at the weekend.

Falling two wins outside of the top six, Toowoomba now requires a late-season surge to force their way into the postseason.

Taking a depleted roster to Southern Districts, with just four of their 12 players from round one available, the Mountaineers were defeated 127-74 by the Spartans, with JaKobe Hunter scoring a team-high 28 points.

They showed a great deal of improvement the following day against the undefeated RedCity Roar, but found the ladder leaders too tough a task, going down 105-81.

Hunter again played a big role with 23 points, seven rebounds and three steals, with Seth Ham providing 19 points and 13 rebounds.

# THE Mountaineers women were unable to secure their first win of the season.

The Southern Districts women ran out 109-39 winners on Saturday night, with Tyler Courtney adding 10 points.

RedCity took the spoils the following day, scoring a 113-49 victory, as Jaydan Thomson dropped 13 points.
