Debate set to showcase candidates’ plans

THE two candidates for Toowoomba North will go head to head in a virtual debate on The Chronicle’s website on October 5.

The LNP’s Trevor Watts and Megan O’Hara Sullivan will be answering tough questions on the issues that matter most to voters before ballots are cast on October 31.

The livestream will be moderated by The Chronicle’s Tobi Loftus and readers are invited to send in their questions to be put to the candidates on the day.

The Chronicle editor Steve Etwell said the debate would provide an invaluable opportunity for voters to find out more about their candidates.

“Voters deserve to be informed before they vote and this debate will let them put their most pressing questions to the candidates and get an answer,” he said.

A debate was also planned for the Toowoomba South electorate on September 28.

Toowoomba South MP David Janetzki had confirmed his attendance, but despite some back and forth, Labor candidate Susan Krause refused to say whether she’d be attending the debate or not, instead referring The Chronicle to the Labor Party head office.

The Labor Party office did not respond to numerous calls from The Chronicle yesterday about the planned debate.

Toowoomba South One Nation candidate Dylan Kozlowski was also invited to attend but also never responded to The Chronicle’s request.

The Toowoomba North livestream will be from 6.30pm on The Chronicle’s website. A digital subscription to The Chronicle currently costs less than a cup of coffee a week.
