Marie Kondo style decluttering service

- MEGHAN HARRIS meghan.harris@thechronicle.com.au

A HIGHFIELDS woman has a passion and skill for doing a task that many people just don’t have time for.

Suellen Sankey recently launched Blue Lilac: Your Local Tidy-Spaces Friend, a decluttering business.

With a natural ability as a space-finding wiz Ms Sankey has an inner instinct to effectively declutter and create space around every room, inside and outside the home.

These skills have recently been used for preparing homes for sale, moving and setting up homes, quick makeovers, stack and tidy before and after renovations, and spring-cleaning exercises.

Decluttering has taken off over the past few years, with many people seeing the value in it, and particularly since Marie Kondo, also known as Konmari, launched her incredibly popular decluttering and organisation series on Netflix.

In recent times Ms Sankey has become more focused, using her decluttering skills to help her clients lower their stress and anxiety levels.

While her real interest is to turn complicated, overcrowded areas into open flowing effective spaces, occasionally she extends her Blue Lilac service to provide time management advice on the family weekly shopping, daily routines and job-sharing duties.

Ms Sankey said COVID-19 had adjusted her business model, with people working and learning from home.

“I began my own research on people being forced to live and work from home and how this had changed their perception of the need to have a more organised home and life environment,” she said.

“The overall result was that clients considered it a priority to have a tidy home environment to enable them to think and work more productively.

“This insight has motivated me towards moving Blue Lilac forward in a post Covid environment.”

She said everyone deserved to live in a house that felt like a home, a place to unwind.

“A tidy home is a tidy mind. Creating harmony through spaces is essential to living a relaxed life,” she said.

“My priority is making spaces functional and practical before making them ascetically pleasing.

“I make spaces that are easy to maintain and work for the family unit.”
