Downs riders jump to Interschools win
EQUESTRIAN: A year of uncertainty didn’t stop the biggest collection of school equestrian talent from descending on Toowoomba.
The jumping, dressage and show horse components of the Interschools Equestrian Queensland State Championships were held at the Toowoomba Showgrounds over the long weekend.
Event co-ordinator Paul Reedy said despite a challenging year, it turned out to be one of the strongest fields they’ve experienced.
“We had four days of Interschools Queensland equestrian competition which ran smoothly, was incredibly competitive and was fantastic,” Reedy said.
“There was close to 2000 individual rides from 280 competitors with 366 horses. “It’s the biggest states they’ve had in Queensland. It comes down to a lot of the hard work done by Darling Downs families.
“It all went off without a hitch and will be remembered for the right reasons.”
As is often the case, riders from the Downs found themselves right in the thick of things.
Fairholme College, The Glennie School and Scots PGC all found themselves in prominent positions throughout the weekend.
“The Darling Downs riders were particularly strong and winning a lot of the overall events,” Reedy said.
“They’re the three big equestrian schools and they showed why.
“It’s a testament to the region, the riders and the quality that these schools keep producing and saluting at these events.”
The Interschools Equestrian Queensland State Championships concludes this weekend with the eventing components on Saturday and Sunday. RESULTS
