Current state govt

- Letters to the editor

I FIND it astounding that anyone could take the current elected state government members seriously.

The Premier has constantly provided conflicting statements as to who is running the state. On the one hand she states that the decisions regarding COVID-19 are made by the Chief Health Officer.

Now that an election is coming, she is trying to claim that it is her who should be rewarded with another term in government, because she “has kept us safe”.

This is the same person who did the greatest ever seen political backflip over the Adani mine approval within hours of the drubbing the Labor Party got at the last federal election.

Prior to the election, despite always parroting the “jobs” mantra, there was no inclination to approve the project.

As soon as their political future was threatened it was a different matter.

The same thing has been happening with New Acland Stage 3. It is all about trying to hold on to Green Labor votes.

Why is it that Queensland Labor can now “promise” all this money on infrastructure, thousands of extra police, doctors, nurses, teachers etc., etc.

Why hasn’t it been done during the past six years, if it’s available now?

Oh, that’s right, they will go to the Federal Government demanding 80% from them, and then blame the Feds when not all of it is delivered.

Then we have our current Health Minister and Deputy Premier. He of the sham poll regarding the name change for the Lady Cilento hospital.

Despite being caught out having his “poll” rigged, he smirked on TV, and got let off by the media – nothing to see here, move on.

Then he publicly shamed a nurse on TV over a COVID outbreak. Recently he tried to embarrass the Federal Government by making accusations that were false and finished up with egg on his face.

His latest faux pas – in trying to score points – was to state that the PM was up here on holiday when he should be looking after the country.

No matter that the PM had just opened a Defence manufacturing facility. The PM was also here supporting the LNP, something that Federal Labor can’t do.

Added to this was the situation highlighted by a correspondent, (letters TC, 12/09), where the James St roadworks were reannounced (at an inflated cost) by our latest Treasurer.

As to voting for a sitting TRC councillor – no way. If elected to Toowoomba North, how long before a better/cushier job (if there could be one), takes her fancy?
