Top five performers from the weekend

- SEAN TEUMA & JASON GIBBS

THE Chronicle was out and about at the weekend, looking out for the region’s top athletes and teams.

Here’s our latest top five.

VECO SERUGO (FOOTBALL)

Chances were few and far between in the SWQ Thunder’s clash with Holland Park Hawks. Late in the first half Serugo made the most of some lax defending to break the deadlock. His strike from distance crept under the bar and was worthy of a Goal of the Week nomination.

LUKE NEALE (CRICKET)

The Wests captain had a weekend to remember, hitting a career high 143 runs for Western Districts in the Harding-Madsen Shield on Saturday, before playing his part in the Hip Pocket Rockets’ DDBBL grand final win the following day.

JARED SIPPEL (CRICKET)

While the result wasn’t to plan for the Aztecs, Sippel can hold his head high after a superb knock in the DDBBL decider.

He came to the crease with his side under pressure, before blasting 76 off 34 balls and giving his bowlers a decent total to try and defend.

BRYCE THOMPSON (BASEBALL)

While not having the greatest game on the mound last week against Pine Hills, Thompson bounced back hard against Narangba.

Thompson conceded just one hit throughout his 2.1 innings pitched, making no errors and helping the Rangers to shutting out the Demons.

HUNTER PURCELL (FOOTBALL)

It took Purcell just 23 minutes to double his goal tally for the season at the weekend.

Opening the scoring in the 3rd minute against Highfields in his side’s TFL Premier Men’s clash, the USQ man had his hat-trick secured just 20 minutes later.
