Brown set to feature at first speedway

- SEAN TEUMA

SPEEDWAY: The Toowoomba Speedway is set to welcome local racing royalty to the track this weekend.

Toowoomba’s own Will Brown will line up in the modlites on Saturday night at HiTec Oils Speedway, his first time competing at the venue.

Brown said he jumped at the chance when offered the chance to race, not knowing what to expect in his first run.

“I’ve got no history at the track and have never practised here, so it will be straight into racing,” Brown said.

“It’s great to be able to race in Toowoomba. My mates don’t often get the chance to watch me live, so it will be a fun night.

“There was no hesitations when they asked me. I’m always keen to drive anything and you can always improve your driving. Speedway is great for car control.

“I don’t know if you brake. I’m hoping to get two or three laps in before. I have to start off the back as a late entrant, so we’ll see how we go.”

In an interrupted season, Brown maintained his composure to finish second in the Super2 Series, backing up his title win last year.

After some time off following the series, Brown said he is back in training ahead of a new season.

“I’ve been training and have stepped it up for next year, keeping fit and happy,” he said.

“It’s been good to have a little bit of downtime and cruise around Toowoomba.”

The Schultz Sedan Spectacular program takes place at the Toowoomba Speedway on Saturday, with early racing from 5pm and the main program from 6pm.

Tickets are available online.
