GET ON BOARD TO SHARE RICHES
THE race is on to get a horse in the richest mile race in the world, not to mention the chance to help determine the final field and even share in the spoils of victory.
Eighty-three racehorses from across Australia and New Zealand are vying for a spot in this year’s All Star Mile — and it all comes down to public voting, which opens today.
It’s the only turf event in Australia where everyday people play a role in choosing the final field, made all the more lucrative by the prizemoney at stake.
Voters have the opportunity of becoming an honorary “owner” of their chosen horse if it’s selected in the race, with a chance to win up to $250,000 of the $500,000 prize pool if their selected horse wins.
Leading female jockey and All-Star Mile ambassador Jamie Kah was trackside at the Pakenham racecourse ahead of the event.
“The All Star Mile is a great concept that’s one of a kind, which really gets the audience involved,” Ms Kah, one of the world’s top-ranking female jockeys, said.
Wearing a bright blue gown designed by Mossman, Ms Kah was joined by All Star Mile racehorse nominee and Phil Stokes-trained Mr Quickie, who was her third Group One winner. “He’s just a lovely horse and I would be thrilled if he’s selected in the All Star,” Ms Kah said.
Now in its third year, the All Star Mile’s unique rotation means the event is held at a different racecourse every year and will take place at The Valley for the first time this year, on Saturday, March 13.
