Woman pees on cop cell floor

- PETER HARDWICK

A WOMAN with a penchant of causing disturbances when drunk has been placed on nine months probation to get help to get her life together.

Shannah Anne Cowham was recorded on CCTV footage entering the Newtown Hotel about 6.20pm on February 8 and arguing with a man who she pushed.

Asked by staff to leave, the 31-year-old continued to argue with the man before running around the bar and throwing two bar stools, Toowoomba Magistrates Court heard.

She left but was soon found by police nearby in an intoxicated state, police prosecutor Natalie Bugden told the court.

Sergeant Bugden said Cowham became belligerent with police when taken to the watch house and was placed in an isolation cell.

Cowham then spat and urinated on the floor of the cell, Sergeant Bugden said.

The court heard Cowham had been drunk when police were called to units in Newtown where she was causing a disturbance.

She had thrown eggs against a wall and smashed some glass bottles.

She told police she had been drinking bourbon and beer and smoking marijuana that afternoon, Sgt Bugden said.

A police search of her unit found a small amount of marijuana, a bong for smoking it and an electric grinder with marijuana residue on it, she said.

Sgt Bugden said Cowham had been in court for similar offending in January and December. Cowham pleaded guilty to all charges.

Asked by Magistrate Howard Osborne as to why she had been behaving in such a manner, a tearful Cowham replied: “I don’t know, it’s just a really big world”.

Mr Osborne placed Cowham on nine months probation.

“Hopefully, probation will give you some help,” Mr Osborne told her.
