COOLAROO EAGER TO MAINTAIN PERFECT START

Coolaroo eager to get early jump on ladder rivals

AUSSIE RULES: Coolaroo will not be short of motivation this weekend.

Eagerly anticipating their first home game of the season, the Toowoomba side are also keen to keep their unbeaten record intact and hand Goondiwindi their first loss.

Both teams enter the round 3 AFL Darling Downs clash with two wins from as many games.

Coolaroo’s most recent was an impressive 10.8 (68) to 3.4 (22) win over University Cougars.

After trailing at the first break Coolaroo kicked 10 goals to Cougars’ one over the next three quarters.

“We’ve had a couple of really good wins to start the season,” Coolaroo coach Miles Grice said.

“They were both in some testing conditions as well.

“The rain was torrential in round one and it was very windy against Uni.

“We’ve got a few new boys and they’re still gelling as a team but it’s slowly coming together and we’re all really looking forward to our first home game of the season.”

Goondwindi are a familiar foe and while hesitant to give too much away, Grice said he would encourage his team to play to its strengths.

“Goondwindi are a good physical team,” he said.

“They like to get numbers in the middle to try and win the ball.

“We’re going to have to match them there – not be afraid to get our noses in the dirt and work hard.

“Once we’ve done that work in the middle we will look to spread the ball wide.

“We’re a hard running side. We will look to spread the ball when we can and make the ground nice and big for them.”
