COMPETITION was strong but one Toowoomba business has come out on top after winning a national award.

Angie’s Domestic Duties owner Angela ‘Angie’ Brown was nominated as one of three finalists in a category for the National Employment Services Association’s Awards For Excellence.

Taking out the title of Champion Employer of the Year, Ms Brown won the award for her commitment to employing people living with disabilities, from disadvantaged backgrounds or struggling to find work.

“We are so thrilled and the whole night was amazing … it was the best experience and I just feel so privileged,” Ms Brown said.

“My reaction (to winning) was a little bit funny – I think they had to call my name out twice.”

Accompanied by her office manager and 13-year-old son at the awards gala in Canberra, Ms Brown said the rest of the team – who watched the live stream back at home – were there in spirit.

“Parents are always proud of their children but to see my son so proud of me is so very special,” she said.

“We do this from a business perspective but most importantly because it helps others and now we’ll be able to help so many more people.”

Nominated by HELP Employment and Training, the business owner thanked the organisation for their support and assistance over the years.

Walking away with a trophy and certificate, Ms Brown said the exposure the business has received since the gala will allow her to employ more people.

Congratulating the other finalists, Ms Brown said the calibre was very high and she is full of gratitude.
