TOOWOOMBA JAM FACTORY

A new Jam Factory is now about to be started in Toowoomba. Several of the gentlemen interested in the old company have purchased the plant, and are entering on the manufacture of jams on entirely new lines. In a few weeks samples will be placed upon the market and practical proof given of the ability of Toowoomba to produce an article equal to any imported or Brisbane goods.

TOOWOOMBA FRUIT PRESERVING FACTORY

Few Toowoomba institutions have proved such a success as this establishment. Considering that it was hastily started towards the end of last fruit season, the amount of work it has done and the show made must be regarded as most encouraging.

The out-turn up to date comprises over 2500 cases of jams and jellies 28 different varieties, and each case containing one dozen pound tins, the whole presenting a consumption of 40 tons of fruit.

Of this the district supplied the bulk, although some of the fruit had gone out before the factory was ready to buy, but the gooseberries, raspberries, currants, plums, apricots, etc, were imported from Tasmania.

The boiling room contains a vertical boiler which heats two large copper pans and drives a horizontal engine which works a pulping machine and a marmalade cutter.

The peel is fed to the latter instrument and cut by it into the required delicate shreds at such a rate as will supply the requirements of marmalade making at three tons per day.
