Firefighters, police and paramedics were dispatched to the incident near the intersection with Falknau Road about 10.20am yesterday after reports the driver was trapped.
Kitchener Street Fire Station Station Officer Neil Goodman said it was a confronting scene.
“On arrival we were greeted by QAS paramedics who said there was one male driver and their initial assessment was that he was deceased,” he said.
“However we had to make access to get a confirmation on the casualty.”
Firefighters use hydraulic cutting equipment to gain entry to the cab while stabilising the trailer.
“We had significant diesel leaks,” SO Goodman said.
A Queensland Ambulance Service spokeswoman said paramedics treated the man for critical injuries.
A LifeFlight rescue chopper was also called to the scene.
Sadly, the man died. The crash spilt a quantity of concrete pipes.
Police blocked the highway near Falknau Road and put a traffic diversion in place along GreenmountClifton Road.
The highway was closed for several hours as Forensic Crash Unit officers started their investigation.
