TIME TO ROLL UP

New vaccination superclinic set to open

- TOM GILLESPIE

THERE’S no better time to get a Covid-19 jab, with a new community-based vaccination superclinic set to open next week.

Health Minister Yvette D’Ath said the new centre in a converted undercover carpark at Clifford Gardens Shopping Centre would offer increased capacity in response to growing demand.

The new vaccination centre is set to open on Monday, September 13, and will replace the clinic at Baillie Henderson Hospital for community vaccinations.

TOOWOOMBA’S Covid vaccine rollout will be supercharged from Monday when a new clinic opens at a popular Garden City shopping centre.

The new 1000 sqm vaccine facility will be in a converted undercover car park at the Clifford Gardens Shopping Centre and will nearly double the city’s jab rollout, with more than 1500 doses able to be administered every day.

The Queensland Health clinic will have eight more bays as the current site at Baillie Henderson Hospital, which will be shut down in the process.

Health Minister Yvette D’Ath said the larger venue would be managed by Darling Downs Health.

“Many of our current vaccination sites are scalable, meaning they are able to ramp up daily capacity as more supply becomes available and we’re able to administer more and more vaccines,” she said.

“The new site will offer 22 vaccination bays, increasing from the eight vaccination bays currently available at Baillie Henderson Hospital.”

DDH has already administered 54,000 jabs since it was established, with 54 per cent of eligible people in the area having received at least one vaccine dose.

Darling Downs Health spokeswoman Annette Scott said it was important people continued to register their interest to receive the vaccine.

“This new centre will initially cater for existing bookings and will progressively ramp up as vaccine supply increases to administer up to 1500 doses a day,” she said.

Matt Healy, who is head of retail for Clifford Gardens’ owner Elanor Investors Group, said the centre was an “ideal” location for a clinic.

“It’s a privilege to be part of the mission to keep the local community safe, provide assistance and serve the Toowoomba region,” he said.

“The centre is a home-base for locals, attracting thousands of visitors daily.

“This clinic is a win for our local community, and we are proud to be a part of the journey.

“Environment, social and governance is a major priority for Elanor Investors and its investment partners; this significant social infrastructure initiative is one of many current initiatives under way.”

The clinic will open from 8.30am to 4pm on weekdays.
