Values central to long marriage

-

FOR 60 years John and Gloria Reedy have lived by their values of faithfulness and commitment – and they are values that have served them well.

Married on September 14, 1961 at Red Hill in Brisbane, they raised a family of five children – Sue, Grant, Charmaine, Kolleen and Natasha.

John (Alexander) was a warrant officer in the RAAF and served for a period of 20 years from January 1963 to 1983.

He was being deployed to Malaysia from 1972 to 1974 as part of Australia’s role in upholding The Australia, New Zealand and United States Security Treaty (ANZUS) Treaty (signed September 1, 1951 and implemented April 29, 1952) and in particular, Australia’s role, to prevent a communist uprising in Ubon, Thailand and to protect the Malay Peninsula from this threat.

A personal highlight for John during this period was winning a graded men’s singles ten pin bowling tournament.

After John’s service in Malaysia, he was transferred back to Australia and spend time at a number of RAAF defence bases such as Laverton, Victoria; Edinburgh, South Australia; Richmond, NSW and Amberley, Queensland.

After retirement from the RAAF, John, Gloria and family moved to Bundaberg where they stayed until 2011.

They then moved to Toowoomba where they now live and have a happy home and are active in the community.

John and Gloria enjoy time ten pin bowling and spending time with their friends, family and in particular, their grandchildren Max and Charlie.

John attributes their long and happy marriage to a strong, old-fashioned value: faithfulness, while Gloria attributes their successful marriage to her values, and taking her wedding vows seriously – being committed through the good and the bad times.

GLORIA ATTRIBUTES THEIR SUCCESSFUL MARRIAGE TO...BEING COMMITTED THROUGH THE GOOD AND THE BAD TIMES.
