NETBALLERS HONOURED

Darling Downs Panthers pay tribute to their elite stars

- JASON GIBBS

NETBALL: The Panthers’ 2021 success was built on the back of team work and unity.

Their run to an inaugural Ruby Series semi-final appearance was due to their strength right across the court and their willingness to work hard for each other.

From goal-shooters and keepers to wing defence and attack, a host of different positional players received top honours, with Kaylin van Greunen claiming the top award.

NETBALL: Sharpshooter Kaylin van Greunen capped off a 2021 Darling Downs Panthers season to remember in style on Saturday night.

Handed the goalshooting responsibilities at the start of the year, the 15-year-old shot the lights out during the 2021 Ruby Series and was named Panthers MVP.

“It’s a huge honour,” she said.

“We had so many amazingly talented players this year and to know that what I’m doing on court is being recognised, it’s amazing.”

Panthers wing defence Molly Parry was equally shocked by her award win, being named Rookie of the Year.

“I guess you could say it’s not your conventional rookie win, with me being in my early 20s,” Parry said.

“It’s very exciting though. “I think the award winners are a sign of how cohesive the team was this year – we have a lot of very talented girls.

“For me being able to play alongside some very talented and committed defenders, it made my role a lot easier.” Other award winners Players Player: Harriet Nicholson
